A Congratulatory Message

On October 20, 2008, in Current Issues, Politics, by jonathanfun

Have you ever wondered how is it like to be conferred by a Sultan, State Governor or even the Agung?

I have a friend’s mother who recently got conferred the PJK by the Melaka State Governor in conjunction with his birthday (Shah Rukh Khan was supposed to be there to get his Datukship too). The PJK award is an abbreviation of Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (I don’t know what it is called in English). This medal was instituted in the year 1959 and is conferred on individuals who have displayed responsibility and have contributed valuable and devoted services to the state.

And true enough, our friend’s mother has been faithful and loyal to a government agency in Melaka – the PAM (Perbadanan Air Melaka or Melaka Water Authority) – since decades ago; it was her first job and she is still with the agency today.

I wonder whether people nowadays would ever have such faithful attitude towards their jobs. Kudos to Aunty Liew for her faithful service and her dedicated in the agency!

Being faithful to your job these days isn’t easy at all and today I’m going to tell you why. Based on my personal observations, today’s wage earners are challenged with a whole new set of problems in life. These include :

1. The ever increasing cost of living among the citizens.

Everything's up except the income...

Everything

Consumers today have a higher role to play in society besides bringing food to the table for their family members; they also need to play their part in supporting the government

For Housing Developments.

Water Transport Upgrades?

Water Transport Upgrades?

To improve the Transportation System of the country (Water transport also included).

Or to improve Public Safety in the country.

2. The penchant for a better lifestyle.

Say good riddance to Malaysian-made cars. Consumers these days must improve their quality of life by upgrading to better and safer cars in order to protect their passengers, i.e. their loved ones! Besides, according to a research done by a local government authority, these imported cars are actually CHEAPER to maintain than our locally made vehicles!

Think Local, buy Global.

Think Local, buy Global.

Why so stupid? From now everyone should Buy Non-Malaysian!

Plus, consumers today may want to live in better homes with high-end facilities. Instead of paying millions for a home upgrade in Mont Kiara or Seri Hartamas, one may want to consider buying properties in Perth through agents or in England through Profitable Plots :-) Like this house in Perth, Australia.

How about a RM60 million home?

How about a RM60 million home?

3. Plus the emergence of a new generation wants instead of needs.

Bags, for example, have evolved from a mobile storage item into a cannot-live-without fashion accessories. And certain brands can be quite expensive too. Consider a consumer working like any other person and makes an average of RM3,000 a month. The price of one such bags can be even higher than his/her monthly salary.

LV is a girl's best friend...

LV is a girl's Best Friend.

If one can’t afford it, well, there’s always those Petaling Street ones that you can choose from for probably 95% less. Otherwise, get a rich boy friend or girl friend and start demanding for one!

So in a nutshell, how does a person in today’s society manage to stay loyal to a job or company like Dexter’s mother? It’s always logical for a person to continuously scout for a higher pay job in order for them to be able to afford such exotic accessories.

Betul betul Respect. *Kao Tao*

I wonder whether PAM confers Lifetime Achievement Awards.

And on behalf of our friends (the brotherhood), I would like to send him a congratulatory message.
