This video was made by some of my friends with the aim of educating the public about how you, yes YOU, as a citizen of this country, could protect your votes from being traced by political parties after the elections. Just in case you didn’t know, YES, your votes can be traced. Which means, people can ultimately find out who you voted for.
The tracing of the votes can be done with either one of the following two methods at the time you arrive at the poling station.
1. The recording of the series number of the ballot paper given to you at the side of your name on the voters list. Poling assistants are only supposed to cancel your name from the list, and NOT to write anything else at the side of your name or on anywhere on that paper for that matter.
2. The recording of your IC number on the ballot paper or on the counterfoil. Poling assistants are only supposed to give you your ballot paper, and NOT to write anything else on it.
If any of the above 2 situations occur at the time you arrive at the poling station, you have the right to object and file a complaint. Just refer to the poling officers on site.
Another situation that often happens in the poling station is the existence of Ghost Voters. Ghost voters are “voters” that have voted on your behalf. Ensure that you always double check the name being canceled on the voters list and make sure it was your name that has been canceled. If you discovered that you have already “voted” (your name have already been canceled), you have the right to object and file a complaint immediately.
It is very important for us to know our rights as voters so as to avoid foul play during elections. By knowing and understanding these simple situations where foul play could easily take place, we can all educate our friends and neighbors from now on to ensure a fair and just election process in our coming general elections.
Kudos to Hasbee, Fathi, Yvonne, Tashny and gang for the informative video!
