It was a dark day for Argentina, especially for this man.

Die Go Maradona

From the very start of the match, he didn’t know what was going on. And video footages showed that instead of jumping around, cheering, and doing those attention-grabbing antics, all he could do last night, was just standing there, staring.

Into oblivion.

For the very first time in this World Cup, we saw the Mess that Messi made for himself. Dribbling and trying very hard to penetrate the German defense, only to find himself trapped in a web of 5 to 6 defenders, wherever he is on the field.

And he left the pitch. Dejected. Deflated.

Messy Messi.

Argentinean Fans from all over the world came to Cape Town to Cheer and Celebrate their expected victory…

We all learn two lessons from Argentina, which is to NEVER be overconfident. And NEVER underestimate your opponents. Even if you’re really really Good.

I’m not going to dwell into the match as you can easily obtain reports from livescore.com or soccernet.com, but in the spirit of this defeat, I would like to dedicate this song to all mourning Argentina fans out there, whether you’re in the mood to celebrate Independence Day with the US or not.

You may download the Song HERE. We’re all in the mood for this song today.

My colleague Timothy asked this question over breakfast the other day and I found it interesting. Because I’ve learned and been playing tennis for years now and I didn’t not know the answer.

Love-15-30-40 Game!

But now I do ( So Timo, here’s your answer)

So apparently, there are a few theories that explains this method of scoring only peculiar to tennis.

The origins of the 15, 30, 40 have medieval and French roots. One possible explanation is that the scoring system is based on the presence of a clock face at the end of the tennis court.

An illustration of the origins of the scoring for tennis.

A quarter move of the hand was made after each rest, with the score being called as 15, 30, or 45 as the case might be. As the hand was moved to 60, making the complete circuit, this was the game.

However, it was realized that the game could then be won by luck, and so the idea of “deuce” was introduced. In order to make the score still within the “”sixty”" ticks on the clock face, the forty-five was changed to forty.

Therefore, if both players have forty, the first player to score receives ten and that moves the clock to fifty. If the player scores a second time before the opponent is able to score, they are awarded another ten and the clock moves to sixty. The sixty signifies the end of the game.

An example of Deuce.

But if a player fails to score twice in a row, then the clock would move back to forty to establish another “deuce“. The word “deuce” is derived from French deux meaning two more points.

l'oeuf = egg in French

“Love” is generally taken as being derived from the French “l”oeuf”, the egg, symbolising nothing. “Love” is also said to derive from “l’heure” or “the hour” (more likely to be translated as “the time” according to Wikipedia) in French.

Love = Nothing?

The term “love” can also be said to come from the English phrase “neither for love nor for money”, indicating nothing (Taken from the book entitled The Guinness Book of Tennis Facts & Feats and Fifteen Love).

So that’s the answer. Hope everyone who reads this will learn something new today.

However, another additional thing I learnt while doing this short research is this equation :

L’oeuf (French) = Love = Egg = Nothing

Which means Love IS in fact, Nothing at all !

No wonder everyone says that French is the language of Love… I salute them for discovering the true meaning of Love centuries ago, and made it into a game for people to play and whack around the court!

Cheers.

In light of the upcoming Great Depression 2.0, companies around the world are desperately cutting operation and management costs within their organizations. Companies who have been dubbed “unstoppables” or “uncrushables” or “solid like gold” seemed to be vulnerable this time around.

The Honda RA108. History from 2009 onwards.

And Honda is one of them. Citing the global financial crisis, they have decided to exit the highest profile motor racing event in the world – Formula 1.

I can understand how painful this decision could be.

Ayrton Senna : Lived and Died alongside Honda.

Firstly, Formula 1 racing has always been a very thick cultural heritage for Honda, riding the roller coster of success and despair over the 34 years of involvement in this sport, partnered with the best teams ever in Formula 1 before, namely McLaren-Honda as well as BAR, and having been associated with perhaps the most legendary F1 driver of all time – Ayrton Senna. So to let all this go so suddenly, well, it must have been very unfair to the fans and the engineering team who have dedicated their whole lives for the well being of the Honda team.

But the most painful reason, and perhaps one that makes this decision to withdraw from this sport even more easier for Takeo Fukui (CEO of Honda), is the price they need to pay to maintain the team. Honda pays USD542 million a year to maintain this racing team, and on top of that spends an even bigger chunk of cash on Indycar and Motorcycle racing.

And he’s leading the cost cutting strategy by example.

Then.

Now.

Seriously, I think this Formula 1 sport is already too over rated. It’s so freaking expensive today that only conglomerates can afford to sponsor such a cause. The true spirit of the sport has eroded.

Even spectators like us will have to pay RM50 just to freaking sit on the grass at Sepang F1 Circuit under the hot sun! And who are the guys making the big bucks? Media Moguls, and the sakai-looking Bernie Ecclestone himself (owner of Formula 1) I guess.

If Lisa thinks that she looks like a sakai, try beating this look!

The true Sakai. Billionaire Sakai.

If one can imagine Formula 1 without Honda, try imagining Formula 1 without Ferrari. I was just pondering briefly on this and I predict that the following might happen if Ferrari quits F1 :

1. FIA will be so depressed because Ferrari has always been synonymous with Racing, they will launch a worldwide marketing campaign to change the perceptions of racing companies, lowering fees, media expenditures and requirements. And they will do it all in Red color to beckon Ferrari to come back to F1. I believe their advertising campaign will look like this :

The FIA will have to learn from Tony Fernandes on this one.

2. Because of Ferrari’s departure, people around the world will get sick of the sport and decide to watch Horse Racing instead. The same will go to the sponsors like Hugo Boss, Marlboro, Tag Heuer, and Vodafone, who will prefer to sponsor the horses and the jockeys instead when their audience switch interests. It’s cheaper too!

I mean, how much grass can a horse eat compared to the gallons and gallons of expensive fossil fuel consumed by F1 cars right?

It’s more environmentally friendly as well and will be endorsed by WWF, as the by-product are feces which can be used as fertilizers for plants instead of carbon monoxides which pollutes our air.

Cheaper. And Greener too.

3. FIA will decide to rev up another global marketing campaign to plead ex-F1 fans back to support the sport, so they will to talk to all the venue hosts around the world and allocate erm… free seats. Like Air Asia. But you’ll have to book online.

Now everyone can afford F1 tickets too! No Fuel Surcharge perhaps???

4. With the requirements lowered and participation fees brought down, many smaller car manufacturers around the world will slowly join the bandwagon and participate in F1 racing. One such manufacturer will come from Boleh-land, where else none other than Malaysia, where Proton will join Formula 1 racing!

Malaysia Boleh F1!

However, due to limited funds and technical expertise, Proton will only join F1 with their not-so-impressive debut car, the MMB-2020 model (Malaysia Masih Boleh 2020)! It will be at least 30 years behind in terms of technology, but heck, everyone has to start somewhere right?

Don't laugh. I mean, everyone has to start somewhere right?

How many of you will agree that F1 is too overrated and requirements (especially in terms of monetary commitments) should be brought down so that the true spirit of the sport can once again be revived?

Comments welcomed.

After reading and hearing so much about this Yoga saga going around, I decided to seek clarifications from a local yoga expert in Malacca.

Brandon Tan is currently a Life Coach who promotes alternative therapy at Inner Living. As a martial arts instructor and motivational speaker, his work has inspired many people and leaders from all walks of life.

He loves his yoga.

Inner Living

It was a pleasure speaking to him, and here are excerpts from the short Q&A session we had:

1. What exactly is Yoga and is it related with Hinduism? If yes, why?

In very straightforward terms, yoga is an ancient form of exercise to combines the union of mind, body and spirit through physical postures or poses called asanas. Thus the basis of yoga are its asanas or postures which I believe most people would have come across these postures at least once in their lives.

Hinduism is the religion of yoga. Which means every aspect of yoga is based on references to Hinduism. To understand what this means is to liken it to this situation: Islam is the religion of Malaysia. But it does not mean all Malaysians must be Muslims. At the time when yoga was initiated, all its practitioners as well as teachers were Hindus. So naturally yoga took on a Hindu front and is integrated into Hinduism.

2. Yoga has been in Malaysia for decades and it has already been a healthy sporting lifestyle to many, including the Muslims. The National Fatwa Council recently said that Yoga could erode Muslim’s faith towards Islam. What do you have to say about this?

First of all, it should be interesting enough to point out that a lot of Christians think that Yoga can erode their faith in Christianity too. Secondly, I think erode is a strong as well as inappropriate term. Certain aspects such as mantras, meditation, believe in enlightenment, reincarnation, cakras etc. are subjects and practices that are subtly introduced.

Thus, I believe Yoga CAN DIVERT a person’s current faith and probably has already to most Muslims and Christians without them even knowing. Whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing is subjective to the individual. I think it’s inevitable. Consider it a form of globalisation. I know a lot of Muslims have taken a very defensive stand due to this and have argued that Yoga has in fact made them better Muslims and a lot of Christians make the same arguments too but I honestly believe that is not true. While I do believe Yoga can make a Muslim or a Christian a better person, I doubt it can make a Muslim a better Muslim or a Christian a better Christian.

3. Do you think it is fair for Yoga to be banned from Muslims?

I don’t think Yoga should be banned from Muslims (or Christians) because I believe Muslims (and Christians) in general should be given the benefit of the doubt that the are matured enough to know and understand which aspects of Yoga is haram or forbidden.

But what I believe is that the right awareness should be created. Which means living in a multi-racial, multi-national, multi-religious country, it’s important for Yoga teachers to not be too pro-Hindu and be sensitive to other religions. I also believe that the Fatwa Council is doing the right thing in bringing up the subject because it is an important and relevant issue to address. I just don’t agree with the ban.

4. What do you have to say to the Muslim community about Yoga after all said and done?

Yoga minus Hinduism is still Yoga. Give it a try! For those Muslims who are Yoga practitioners and are hurt by the fatwa, I think instead of taking a defensive stand, use this opportunity to create awareness.

*********

If you’d like to know more about yoga and to personally ask him more questions pertaining to this issue, you may always contact Brandon personally and forward him your inquiries. He’s really a friendly guy. Here’s his business card.

Enough of the political nonsense shrouding our poor nation. The previous post was just a joke to lighten ourselves of the frustration we all have as citizens of this pitiful country about the political situation haunting us today. Thanks a lot guys for your comments. We shall all pray that things will change for the better and we can all go back to our once harmonious lives.

Oh well.

Today I’m going to bring to light something which is good for everybody. I got this information from my dad a few days back and I thought it will be good to share it with you guys.

It’s about how vegetables that we eat everyday could relate to our health and our body.

According to this article, it was said that before God created human beings, He first separated the salt water from the fresh, hence forming our oceans and rivers. Next He created dry land, formed a beautiful garden full of vegetation around mother earth and created the beasts of the forest, creatures of the seas, and birds of the air.

If you’re not a Christian and you would like to know more about how Christians believed God created earth, you can refer to the bible from the book of Genesis, Chapter 1. Alternatively you can click here.

Coming back to the main topic.

So basically God had already prepared everything, all these vegetation (or vegetables) before we existed in this world to eat and depend upon. And these are best when taken raw. In fact, He left us clues about how these vegetables can help each part of our body!

This is known today as the Doctrine of Signatures.

I shall list these vegetables down to give you guys a better idea.

Carrots

Sliced carrots look like the human eye. It has pupils, iris and radiating eyes that looks just like them. And it does help a lot with our eye sight when eaten due to its richness in Vitamin A which increases blood flow to our eyes.

Tomatoes

Slice a tomato into half and you will discover that it has four “chambers”. Our heart also has four chambers. Both are in red. Tomatoes are rich in lycopines and are indeed important nutrients for the blood and also our heart. Lycopines are also known to help relief cancer.

Grapes

Grapes hand in a cluster and has the shape of our bronchioles in our lungs. Each grape also looks like a blood cell and research today shows that grapes are vitalizing source of food for our blood.

Walnuts

These nuts looks like our brain, has both the left and right hemisphere, shapes that look like our cerebrum and cerebellum. The wrinkles on the nuts are also just like the brain’s neo-cortex. Walnuts are known to help develop more than 3 dozen neuron-transmitters for brain functions.

Kidney Beans

The name speaks for itself. They look exactly like human kidneys and are known to help maintain and heal kidney functions.

Celery, Bak Choy and Rhubarb

These guys look like bones, and they specifically target bone strength. According to this article, bones are made of 23% sodium and coincidentally, these vegetables also share the same amount of sodium. So if you do not have enough sodium in our daily diet, the body will automatically take them from our bones, making them weak if these nutrients are not replenished.

Avocadoes, Eggplants and Pears

This one is funny. Do you know that Avocados take exactly 9 months to grow from blossom to ripe fruit? So what does this mean?

Yes. It means it will greatly help the reproductive organs of women. It is known to balance hormones, shed unwanted birth weight and prevents cervical cancers.

Figs

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow (like the testicles). Figs are known to increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

I’m definitely buying more figs to eat. Yum yum.

Sweet Potatoes

These guys look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries. They look like ovaries too.

Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits

These fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions

Onions look like the body’s cells (I don’t think so). Today’s research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes.

And finally,

Garlic

Garlic, which also looks like a cell (I also don’t really think so), helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

Conclusion : Stop eating Horrigeble and Terrigeble! Instead, Start eating Vegetable!
