Today I would like to share with you a recent trip I’ve made to Krabi, a modest town on the west coast of southern Thailand at the mouth of the Krabi River into the Andaman Sea. The town is the capital of the Krabi Province and also the Krabi district.

Sounds more like a town in Zimbabwe right? Well not exactly. It’s only 4 hours away from Langkawi by boat and around an hour or so from Phuket, also by boat.

You can even drive to Phuket if you want; it only takes around 2 and a half hours by car to reach there.

On the flight to Krabi, be sure to taste the latest addition to the menu of Air Asia, the Hotdog (I forgot the name of the Hotdog) by 1901.

First you squeeze the mayo.

And then the ketchup. Like this.

Sprikle the Black Pepper seasoning…

And gobble it up in less than 10 seconds!

It’s the perfect snack food for couples! Definitely won’t give you that “I-want-some! You-want-to-try-some? No-It’s-mine!!! No!-you-cannot-try!” that kind of shit you know.

Look at how happy we are after the Hotdog.

Upon arriving at the airport, we took the local bus to Ao Nang Beach, the place where our hotel is located. Reminds me of the school bus I used to take to school during primary school days. It surely feels a bit odd though, because 80% of the passengers are foreigners.

Going to primary school with a whole group of foreigners would probably look like this.

And because they are all primary school bus operators, their England level might not be as Powderful. Grammatical errors can be frequently found, but it is acceptable.

Hmm… Imagine…. “ The Shuttle is on a White Colour ”…

Owning a sports car in Krabi will be fantastic, because citizens are allowed to drive as fast as they can without getting a ticket, as long as they are careful on the road. This is very evident with police signs like this one in and around town :

I swear to God. I did not tamper with the photo.

You can even ride a motorbike there without wearing a helmet.

Unlike other beach destinations like Bali or Phuket, Krabi is a very slow, relaxed town. Every movable object there seems to move half a beat slower than usual. Simply put, it’s a lazy place. Everyone doesn’t seem to bother about everything.

It seems like they don’t bother to know and they won’t bother to find out.

I remembered walking into a local 7 Eleven store and asked the cashier what’s the name of the current Prime Minister. He frowned and gave me that “I don’t know” look. I asked him then do you know who was your previous Prime Minister’s name? He shook his head.

I nearly fainted.

Seriously. I think they are too lazy to know.

Even the Dogs there are also too lazy to bother about on-going traffic in the middle of the road. They just sleep there as though there are no vehicles on the road. Oddly enough however, the drivers or riders there did notice the dog and avoided it. Wah, such a considerate society.

In Malaysia, this dog would have already become a flat, hairy corpse on the road with blood all over the place.

The hotel we stayed in is pretty nice – Buri Tara Resort. Although the hotel is located far away from the prominent areas of Ao Nang beach, it boasts quite a beautiful environment for tourists seeking solitude. The room is also spacious and well decorated.

Along the main streets of Ao Nang beach, you will find Burger King, Starbucks, or even Swensens (It’s not as kampung as I thought after all).

Even the Mc Donald’s outlet there serve Fish N’ Fries (Malaysia also don’t have).

The highlight of the whole trip however, is the island hopping package we signed up for on the 2nd day at Krabi. For around RM90 per person inclusive of food from 8.30am to 4.00pm, we were brought to Phi Phi Don Island and Phi Phi Lay Island for sightseeing and snorkeling.

The view was breathtaking.

Later I also found out from the boatman that this was the spot where they shot the movie “The Beach” starring Leonardo Di Casino.

On that same trip, we met some very nice people. First we met a Spanish couple whose husband’s name was Jesus; It’s really a great and wonderful thing to be able to meet the Son of God while you’re on a holiday. In fact he looks just like him. You can compare and see.

We also met another Korean guy who could speak Beijing-accent mandarin.

And we met a friend from Malacca (Wen Yi) and her friend from France (Natalia). Sorry folks, we forgot to take photos with them. The world is really so small.

We spent the last day of our stay in Krabi touring the area by motorbike. Unfortunately for us, it rained so badly the whole day.

I had to depend on a plastic raincoat and a bottle of Coke to keep myself alive (imagine riding through thousands of raindrops whacking your face), while my gf got a chance to catch a preview of how she’s going to look like in 20 years time.

There are also quite a number of massage parlors along the streets of Ao Nang. Unless you’re looking for Thai Massage, I still recommend Bali for their foot reflexology services. It’s more expensive in Krabi; a one-hour Foot Massage session will set you back around RM40, compared to around RM16 in Bali, and the skills aren’t that good.

All in all, it was a short and sweet getaway, and both my gf and I enjoyed the trip. The place isn’t that commercialized yet so there wasn’t much tourists around. The local people are very nice (this place is dominated by Muslims, so it’s really a very clean, no hanky-panky kind of place), except for some of those arrogant Indians business owners running the souvenir stalls by the road. Those guys have a face that looks like as if someone owed them 2 million dollars. The environment’s clean and the food is alright, and we don’t need to wear helmets while riding and we can speed all we want.

Quite a cool place for a holiday don’t you think?
